Winona Estellene Attaway Angelle, 91, of Liberty, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025. She was born on September 4, 1933, in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, to Warren Willis Attaway and Beaulah Lee Gay.
Winona’s life journey was one marked by dedication, service, and a deep faith. A longtime resident of the area since 1977 and formerly of Freeport, Texas, Winona was a cherished member of the Liberty Church of Christ, where she worshipped and found community. Prior to that, she attended the Marantha Church in Mont Belvieu.
For two decades, Winona served as a member of the Sus Manos Extendidas medical missionary team in Old Mexico, providing care and support to those in need. She loved those trips and thoroughly enjoyed serving the Mexican people. Her love for the Lord was evident in all aspects of her life, especially through her deep devotion to reading the Bible. Winona’s Bible was filled with notes and reflections, a testament to her lifelong faith.
Beyond her missionary work, Winona was a lover of simple joys. She found comfort in crocheting, cherished telling stories about her family with laughter and warmth, and enjoyed taking train rides to explore new places.
Winona was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Deborah Jean Curtiss; her son, Ronald Gary “Bubba” Curtiss; her stepson, Charlie Richbourg; her siblings, Leo Vernon Attaway, Luther Russell Attaway, and Ruby Attaway; and her grandson, Jonathan Wayne Kuklies.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia “Pat” Hobbs and husband Lon, and Pamela Ainsworth and husband Joel; her stepchildren, Bennie Richbourg and Marla Richbourg; her grandchildren, Mike Kuklies, Bryan Curtiss and wife Rachel, Phillip Shelton, Charles Dean, Amanda Harrington and husband Stephen, Jessica Williams and husband Trey, Ashley “Renee” Curtiss, Valerie Baker; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Liberty Church of Christ on February 1, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m., also at Liberty Church of Christ, with Pastor Bryant Perkins officiating. Following the service, Winona will be laid to rest at Moss Hill Cemetery in Hardin, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joel Ainsworth, Billy Jack Smith, Mike Kuklies, Bryan Curtiss, Chase Carnevale, and Vance Hobbs.
Winona will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire those who remain.
