William “Terry” James, 78 of Liberty, passed away on February 3, 2021. Terry was born July 17, 1942 in Meridian, Mississippi to Albert and Ola Mae James.
Terry completed 5 years of apprenticeship at Local 100 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Dallas. He worked through that Local for 8 years. When the worked slowed down there he moved to Houston and worked as a Traveler Pipefitter with Local 211 and 195 out of Port Arthur. He was known on most of the jobs as the “Old Man” but each company he worked for, and there were many, knew the job would be done right. He trained many pipefitter helpers. Terry met his wife Carolyn in 1976 while he was helping coach her softball team. They married in November of 1978 and had a very happy fulfilled 42 years of marriage.
Terry had many hobbies, and he was good at everything. He loved to hunt deer and to fish. He could really tell some great fish tales. If you listened to him, you would really learn some great techniques. He was skilled in woodwork. He made several duck figurines and always enjoyed when he gave his “I’m a Frayed Knot” away.
Terry was known as the candy man at all the churches he attended. Terry held the position of maintenance man at Parkway Baptist Church in Houston for 3 years where he was a member for 26 years. He then moved his membership to Community Baptist Church in Sheldon for six years and then moved to the country where he attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church-Marysee beginning in March 2018. Terry was an assistant coach for many years with the Little League in both North Shore and Sheldon areas.
Terry James never met a stranger. He never said a bad thing about anyone. These are fine qualities to have and a good legacy to leave to his family and friends. He was always willing to lend a hand.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ola Mae, his brother Eddie and wife Sue, his son Rex Dyson. He leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Carolyn; sister, Claudette; sons, Bobby and wife Karen, Russell Dyson, Derek and wife Danielle, twins, Teresa and spouse Jeff, Lisa and spouse David, Terri “DeeDee” and spouse Rob; daughter-in-law, Toni; sisters-in-law, Linda, Peggy & Dianne. He also had many grand-children and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, also many a dear friend and church family.
