William Ray Shafer, age 78, of Cleveland, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born September 21, 1943, in Houston, Texas to parents William Hubert and Thelma Minz Shafer who preceded him in death along with his brother, Randy Shafer; and sister, Cora Mae Blystone.
Mr. Shafer served in the USMC for 4 years. He was a minister for 40 years and pastored at Amazing Grace Church in Hemphill, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years and 3 months, Sandra Shafer; children, Sherry Shafer, Lana Belz and husband Mike, Steven Shafer and wife Jennie; sisters, Juanita Steagall and husband Alan, Mary Jo Burton and husband Bubba, and Jean Greenhouse; grandchildren, Shane Belz and wife Lyndi, Jacob Belz and wife Sarah, Caleb Bagwell and wife Jennifer, Tyler Shafer, Brandon Shafer and wife Kayla, Josh Shafer, Jason Funderburke, Kenra Wright, Elizabeth Foster and husband Chris Chapman, Jessi Belz, Mia Shafer, and Jodi Wagner; great-grandchildren, Konner, Rose, Presley, Hunter, Colton, Azariah, Eliana, Braylee, Connor, Elliot, William, Brayden, Bailey, Bella, Logan, Casen, and Caden; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 25, 2021, at Bethel Family Worship Center, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Plum Grove Cemetery.
