William Merrin Lawrence

William Merrin Lawrence, age 79 of Dayton, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019. He was born February 7, 1940 in Longview, Texas to parents Alvin H. Lawrence and Hellen Sue Lawrence who preceded him in death along with his grandparents, Lizzie Mae Rush and William M. Rush; and in laws, Lillie Mae Chambers and Jack Floyd Chambers.

William was an avid animal lover who could often be found working his cows. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Lawrence was a proud Shriner. Above everything else, spending quality time with his family was most important to him.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Verta Sue Lawrence; son, William Floyd "Bo" Lawrence and Kay Gilbertson; daughter, Lillie Christi Raley and husband Jeff; brother, Herbert A. Lawrence, Jr. and wife Sharon; sister, Hellen Teresa Lawrence; grandchildren, Steven Lawrence and wife Jaime, Brittany Soukup and husband Rick, Justin Lawrence and Emily Raley; great-grandchildren, Carley Lawrence, Cash Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, Corley Lawrence, Alivia Soukup and Victoria Soukup; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dogs, Wags, PeeWee, Big Boy and Baby Girl; and numerous cows and cats.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Ryan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas with Jack Chambers officiating.
