Will Rogers "Butch" Martin, a beloved husband, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in Houston, at the age of 81. Born on March 1, 1943, in Dayton, Butch was a lifelong resident of the area, whose contributions to both his community and family will be remembered with deep appreciation.
Butch graduated from Dayton High School in the Class of 1961, where he left a mark as a dedicated member of the marching band. He went on to serve his country honorably in the Army during the Vietnam Era, a testament to his commitment to both service and community.
In his professional life, Butch worked as a supervisor in the agriculture industry, having dedicated many years of service to Texas Rice, American Rice Growers, and the Brown Brothers. His work ethic and leadership in agriculture were respected among his peers.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Butch was passionate about woodworking, square dancing, and collecting Western novels. He found joy in the great outdoors through hunting and fishing, activities that brought him closer to nature and created lasting memories.
Butch was a proud member of Kenefick Southern Baptist Church and the American Legion, where he actively participated in community events, contributing to the vibrancy of his local area.
He is survived by his loving grandchildren, Craig Winn, Annalise Martin, Zayne Winn, Hope Winn, and Faith Winn; great-grandchildren, Rinley Winn and Waylon Winn; former daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Winn and Christina Martin; brother-in-law, Harvey Robinson; special friend, Ruth Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Butch is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sherry Robinson Martin; parents, Leo Martin and Clara Ashley Martin; and siblings, Bob Martin, Barbara Brown, Carol Boyett, and Lenitta Martin.
A memorial service to honor Butch’s life will be held on March 8, 2025, at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas, beginning at 11:00 AM. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment to his family and community.
