W.C. "Rip" Thrower

November 21, 1924 — April 10, 2013

W.C. “Rip” Thrower, age 88 and a 26 year resident of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013. He was born in Waco, Texas in 1924 to parents Joseph G. and Myrtice I. Thrower who preceded him. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy; served from 1943 to 1946. He was a 1954 graduate from Baylor University with a degree in Geology. He retired in 1985 from Phillips Petroleum Company as an offshore Geologist after 31 years of service. He played in many golf tournaments and was a member of the Houston Geological Association. He was an avid Astros and Houston Texans fan. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marilee January Cook; and his son Mark Levi January. Survivors include his wife of 32 years Kathleen Thrower; daughters Shelley Mann, April House; sons Dennis Thrower, Glenn Thrower, Scott Thrower, and John January; sisters Novelene Booker of Houston, Texas and Joyce Piano of Dallas, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and faithful friends. Visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Rev. Mariann Rayne will preside over funeral services being held Saturday, April 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Paul Horton United Methodist Church at Stephens Creek with interment following at Oakwood Cemetery, Coldspring, Texas.
