Wayne M. Kirkham

December 29, 1925 — October 30, 2013

Wayne Kirkham died peacefully in Vancouver Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Predeceased by his brother, Will and nephew Kenneth, Wayne is survived by his son, Rod, his daughter-in-law, Willa MacDougall, and grandchildren, Zoe, Tommy and Pippa. He is also survived by his brother, Carl, nephew, David and by J.W. Kirkham (Liz), Hayley Kirkham and their mother, Debbie Mills Young and Kenneth’s daughter, Angela Kirkham Sheets. Wayne was born in Liberty County, Texas. He received his B.Sc. in petroleum geology from the University of Houston. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. In his professional life, Wayne made significant contributions in oil and gas exploration and development in his home State of Texas, Alberta and British Columbia and was one of the pioneers in exploration activity on the North Slope of Alaska. Wayne’s passion for scientific discovery continued into his retirement years where he spent many hours formulating a comprehensive model of our universe. Regrettably, recognition for his work did not come in his lifetime – only time will tell. Those who knew Wayne, particularly the young, remember him fondly for the genuine interest and support he showed for their endeavors. While Wayne spent a great part of his adult life in Calgary, he was always a Texas gentleman at heart and will now be returned home to rest beside his beloved parents, Linder and Iva. Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
