Walter Calvin Gates, age 86, of Point Blank, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011. He was born December 20, 1924 in Fairfield, Alabama to parents, Guy Douglas and Jessie Gates who preceded him in death along with his infant son; and two brothers, Jesse Douglas and Joe Gates.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile “Lucy” Gates; daughters, Linda Marie Shinn and husband, Don, Laura Jean Graham and husband, Gordon; sister, Jean Moseley and husband, Morgan; grandchildren, Douglas Shinn and wife, Mary, Lindsey Graham, and Steven Graham; great-grandchildren, Dillon Roberts and Faith Roberts; numerous other cherished family members and faithful friends throughout the years.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Dr. Don M. Shannon will preside over funeral services being held Sunday, August 7, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Coldspring, Texas. Private burial after service.
