Viola Mitchell

Viola Patterson Mitchell, 101, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away on August 26, 2024.

Born on April 13, 1923, in Plantersville, Texas, Viola was the daughter of Louis Patterson and Sallie Hammock Patterson. For 64 years, she and her late husband, Edd Mitchell, made their home at 808 S. Fenner in Cleveland, where they raised their two beloved daughters, Debra Hill and Judy Wellborn.

Viola was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland and was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her working years included cherished roles at Ben Franklin Variety Store and Walker's Department Store. Known for her creativity and meticulous nature, Viola was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed quilting and creating outfits for her daughters in their younger years. Her culinary talents were equally impressive, and she was renowned for her hospitality, ensuring that no guest left her table hungry. Her love for maintaining a pristine yard was evident, as she diligently raked leaves before they had fully settled on the ground.

Viola's spirit of adventure shone through in her enthusiasm for travel and shopping; she cherished any opportunity to "get her shoes on" and embark on a journey. Above all, her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the center of her world, and she delighted in having them visit and be a part of her life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edd Mitchell, and all eleven of her siblings. Viola leaves behind her daughters, Debra Hill (Mike) and Judy Wellborn (Doug); her grandchildren, Eric Wellborn and Lacy Hill; her great-grandchildren, Chloe, Brailey, Emie, Hunter, Brooks, and Maci; as well as her dear friends Jerrie Beth Williamson and Sarah Page, her special caregivers Mary "Barbara" Cisneros and Jose "Boy" Cisneros, and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, with a service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Cleveland City Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Eric Wellborn, Hunter Etheridge, Justin Dillard, Cody Barton, Toby Tullos, and Jose Cisneros, with honorary pallbearers Mike Hill and Doug Wellborn. The service will be officiated by Pastor Kenneth Faust and Pastor Tony Current.

Viola's warmth, generosity, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
