Velora Dougless Amos, born on June 16, 1937, in Evergreen, Texas, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Spring, Texas, on March 6, 2025. She was the youngest of ten children, and her upbringing in the Assembly of God church instilled in her a strong sense of community and faith throughout her life.

Velora had a rich and varied career that began as a beautician, transitioned into nursing, and ultimately led her to a role in security. Her dedication to caring for others was evident in every facet of her work.

Velora was known for her deep affection for family, maintaining special relationships with her nieces and nephews due to their closeness in age. She cherished her children and grandchildren, reflecting a legacy of love and support that they will carry forward. Her vibrant spirit found joy in many hobbies, particularly dancing. She and her sisters would frequent every dance event available, sharing countless joyful moments on the dance floor. Her passion for country and western dancing extended to her grandchildren, whom she taught various dances, instilling in them a sense of fun and movement. Additionally, Velora had a talent for crafts and sewing, often creating her own clothing, further showcasing her creativity and resourcefulness.

Velora is survived by her daughter, Cheryel Olin; granddaughters Eighmy Losch and husband John, and Tiffaney Starr; grandsons, Clinton Murphy, Daniel Murphy, John Holmes, and Tobi Holmes; great-grandchildren, Celestia’ Starr, Charla Starr, Alina Byerly, Kailoa Losch, Belle Losch and Spencer Losch; and daughter-in-law, Arie Sale; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends who will remember her fondly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Amos; her daughter, Pansy RaJuane Murphy; her son, Carrol Adelbert Murphy; and her parents, George C. Smith Sr. and Mary Burkes Smith. Velora's siblings, Eva Mae Moody, Linnie Lee Franklin, Bessie Martin, George Clinton Smith, Jr., Dillie Mae Swanner, Oscar Smith, Bonnie Brinegar, Leslie Smith, and Rosie Gilbert, also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas, on March 12, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at Peebles Cemetery in Goodrich, Texas, starting at 1:00 PM.

Velora will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, whose life touched many and whose spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
