Velma Jane Elrod, age 74 of Splendora, Texas passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020. She was proud that she was born at home on March 26, 1946 in Caldwell, Texas to parents Bill and Velma Verwold, who preceded her in death along with her son, Chris Elrod; daughter, Pamela Caldwell; and brothers, Billy Verwold, Tommy Verwold and James Verwold.
All of Velma’s friends and family knew her as ‘Jane’, who was a simple woman with an overwhelming Faith from accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Jane has been a member of First Baptist Church in Porter, TX since 1976. She woke every morning and spent time in prayer and devotion in reading her bible devoting time to understand God’s will for her life.
Jane was a strong and persevering woman who raised five children by herself and worked many jobs to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Jane devoted her remaining time to her family, pets and hobbies. Throughout her life, Jane probably had over a hundred cats, all with unique names and personalities that she doted on. She was an expert at detail, enjoying crocheting, reading, baking, cake decorating, making sweets, sewing, tending to her garden and enjoying the flowers from that garden. She could make anything grow. She could place a twig in water, and it would sprout. Jane believed in never wasting anything and that everything had a purpose.
Among Jane’s favorite sayings was, “Accept what is, let go of what was, and have Faith in what will be. Give it to God, He knows what he is doing”,
In her later years, she filled her days with Facebook, spending time with her children and continuing to read her bible. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Jane is survived by her family, daughter Chelle Elrod, son Mike Elrod and wife Kelly, son Jason Elrod, and son Richard Caldwell and wife Jeanne; brother Glen Verwold and wife Sue, and sister, Suzi Jackson and husband Floyd; grandchildren, Jessica Caldwell, Ashley Boggs, Zoey Elrod and Sarah Elrod and great grandson Joseph Armstrong; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Cleveland City Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
