Vance Eugene Stiles, born on August 28, 1935, in Jefferson, Texas to Robert Vance Ford and Pansy Stiles, peacefully passed away at his home in Coldspring, Texas on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the age of 88.
Vance's life was marked by a fulfilling career in the oil industry both on land and at sea, spanning 18 countries. He eventually retired from Santa Fe Drilling as an offshore drilling superintendent at a relatively young age, affording him the opportunity to pursue his passions. Among these were his dedication to aiding the less fortunate and indulging in hobbies that brought him joy. Vance took great pleasure in following high school football, particularly rooting for the Lufkin Panthers and the Katy Tigers. He also found success in professional bass fishing. An exciting chapter unfolded when he embarked on his first cruise on his 80th birthday—a journey he cherished due to his love for the sea—and ultimately achieved Diamond status with Carnival Cruise Lines. Additionally, Vance was an active member of Liberty Fellowship Church in Cleveland where he worshiped and volunteered.
Vance is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Vance Ford and Pansy Stiles; brothers, George McLeary and Jerry McLeary. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Stiles; children, Machell Johnston and husband Dale, Randall Stiles and wife Ronda, Tonya Stiles, Calvin Stiles and wife Natasha; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnston, Matthew Johnston, Devin Smith, Olivia Cangemi, Nathan Cangemi, Ryan Stiles, Austin Stiles and Mallory Stiles; great-grandchildren, Jace, Slade and Kynlee Johnston, Calli Mae Stiles; and sister-in-law, Iva Lee McLeary.
