Tommy Ray Nail, 60, of Mont Belvieu, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his beloved wife and children. He was born July 25, 1957 in Henderson, Texas to parents Joe and Martha Sears Nail.
Tommy had been a 27 year resident of Dayton, Texas and was previously of Mt. Enterprise. He worked diligently as a truck driver and attended North Harris Montgomery Community College where he obtained his law enforcement license. He was a reserve for the Westlake Louisiana Drug Task Force before later working full-time as a Police Officer for the Dayton Police Department and was a Deputy for Liberty Country Sherriff’s Department as well. These 10 years of law enforcement was so special for him. Tommy was a Safety Supervisor in the pipelines and even chemical plants before his massive stroke in June 2013.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved Bass fishing, hunting, and shining up his bass boat and truck before his illness. He competed in numerous tournaments and even on the amateur side of the B.A.S.S. professional circuit. He also loved his family and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren. They truly brightened his days and could bring a smile to him on some of the toughest. He will forever be missed.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Gayla Dixon Nail of Mont Belvieu who has been a phenomenal caretaker over this journey; son, Tommy Joe Nail and wife Patricia of Dayton; daughter, Shannon Trevino and husband Jesse of Mont Belvieu; sisters, Daphne Dolese of Garrison, Linda Cain and husband Rayford of Rusk, and Donna Matlock and husband Ray of Rusk; grandchildren, Austin, A.J., Martha and Brady Nail, and Jaci and Jacob Trevino; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A celebration of life for Tommy will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton. Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Nail, A.J. Nail, Mica Little, Colby Pratz, Jeremy Skelton, and Terry Lee Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Martha and Brady Nail, and Jaci and Jacob Trevino.
