Obituary for Thomas Lee Jones

Thomas Lee Jones, 87, of Point Blank, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024. Born on November 22, 1936, to Samuel Thomas Jones and Ethel Bell Holmes, Thomas faced the challenges of life head-on, notably overcoming polio as a young child. His tenacity and spirit shone through as he embraced every opportunity, working in the oil fields for much of his life.

A proud graduate of Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Oklahoma, Thomas left home to pursue his career, quickly earning a reputation as a hard worker with an infectious smile and a generous heart. He was a beloved friend to many, always ready to lend a hand or share a kind word.

For 62 wonderful years, Thomas was married to Sherry, who lovingly referred to him as "her hero." Together, they built a life filled with joy in Point Blank, where they resided for the past 32 years after moving from California. Thomas was known for his love of Westerns, often found watching shows like Gunsmoke, Rifleman, and Wagon Train. He cherished his daily golf cart rides with his dogs and was known as the “fish whisperer” among his friends, relishing every chance to cast a line.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers—Sam, Joe, and Max Jones—two sisters, Maggie Greenway and Joyce Warden, and his son, Thomas Henry Jones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry; sons Michael Thornton and wife Denise, and Brian Thornton and wife Pam; daughters Carla Jo Jones and Tawni Jones; brothers Jim Jones and wife Tina, and Doug Jones and wife Debbie; grandchildren Christopher Thornton, Meghan Burns and husband Jeremy, Garrett Thornton and wife Crystal, Brandon Ward, great-grandchildren, Brendan Burns, Sydney and Bailey Thornton; along with his two beloved pups, Mollie and Mandy.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Point Blank Community Center, 432 Robinson Way, Point Blank, Texas 77364, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Thomas’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
