Thomas Arlan “Tommy” Ham Jr., 63, of Cleveland, passed away on April 12, 2025, with his beloved wife by his side. A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend, Tommy lived a life marked by deep faith, steadfast love, and unwavering service.
Born on July 29, 1961, to Vernell (Price) and Thomas Arlan Ham Sr., Tommy dedicated his entire professional life to ministry. For 44 years, he faithfully served and ministered to his community, becoming a beloved spiritual leader to many. He was known not only for his wisdom and compassion, but for his kind and gentle spirit that touched everyone he met. Tommy held a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas State University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary reflecting both his passion for learning and his dedication to his calling. Tommy began his ministry as a youth minister at the age of 19 at First Baptist Church in Gonzales, Texas. After earning his seminary degree, he served as the Senior Pastor at several churches across the state of Texas, including churches in Kemp, Quitman, Hutto and Cleveland. These are the places where Tommy was blessed to come to know and love so many of God’s people.
The love of Tommy’s life was his wife, Crystie. Married for nearly 42 years, their relationship was a true partnership rooted in devotion, and deep affection. Their love was evident to everyone who knew them— marked by unwavering commitment, constant support, and a shared joy that endured through every season of life. Crystie stood faithfully by his side in life and in his final moments, just as she had in every chapter of their journey together. Outside of ministry, Tommy loved competitive sports and treasured time spent playing golf with friends and family. And good or bad (mostly bad), he loved the Dallas Cowboys. But above all, the greatest joys of his life were found in his family.
He is survived by his wife, Crystie Wright Ham of Cleveland; his children, Alyssa Ham, Trice Ham and wife Theresa, Annie Markle and husband Sean; and his four cherished grandchildren: Matthias Ham, Isaiah Ham, Ryan Markle, and Graham Markle. He is also survived by his mother, Vernell Ham. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Arlan Ham Sr., and his brother, Steve Ham. Tommy’s legacy is one of love, faithfulness, and strength. He will be remembered not only for the messages he preached, but for the life he lived—one of humility, kindness, and grace.
A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Fellowship Church in Hutto, Texas. The family will be available to visit after the service.
