Thomas E. Root

Thomas E. Root, age 74 of Porter, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018. He was born October 9, 1943 in Vidor, Texas to parents Edrie Elmo and Katie Ruth McDonald Root who preceded him in death along with his sisters, Bobbie Oliver, Lois Ann White and Pat Simmons.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Iris Root; step-son, Rueben Gerhart; son, Steven DeWitt; step-daughter, Brenda Flores; daughter, Danya Smith and husband, CDR. Almond Smith, III., USN; brothers, Edrie Elmo Root, Jr. and Albert Fred Root; sister, Margie Stringer; grandchildren, Christy Day, Rieanne Gerhart; Amber DeWitt-Dykes and husband, James Dykes, Taylor Lynn Flores, MMFN(SU) Almond Smith, IV., USN, and Sarah Ann Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
