Terry Slaughter, 68, of Dayton, Texas was called to be with our Lord on December 15, 2024. Terry passed peacefully, surrounded by those he loved dearest.
Born on April 2, 1956 in Alexandria, La, Terry was a selfless and sacrificial man. His life was a testament to hard work, sacrifice, and American grit. He was a tough, introverted, and quiet man to most who knew him but, inside he had a soft heart and was known to be overwhelmingly compassionate to those who knew him well.
Terry loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his loved ones. If he wasn’t actively in the outdoors or with family, he could be found watching outdoor programs on television.
Terry raised 9 children selflessly. He passed on values such as integrity, commitment, poise, and resiliency to each of his children.
Terry moved to North Carolina for retirement in June of 2024. In early December, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and moved back to Texas to be with his family while seeking treatment. After seeing medical professionals in Houston, Texas, he opted for hospice care on December 14 and returned home that day. Terry passed away comfortably in his bed with his son, Khris, and two daughters, Lin and Rebecca, holding his hand, speaking with him, and telling him how much he meant to them. Terry’s final words to those present were ‘I love you.’
Terry is preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Slaughter; father, Bert Riddle; and daughter, Teri Slaughter.
He is survived by his mother, Rubye Riddle, brother, Keith Riddle, his children, Lin Landrum (daughter) and husband Kris, Mike Beemer (Son), Khris Slaughter (Son) and wife Jamie, Ricky Britt (Son), Chad Britt (Son), Rebecca Jenkins (Daughter) and husband Ashton, Hunter Slaughter (Son), Gabriel Slaughter (Son), 19 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, along with numerous friends and family who held Terry in high-esteem.
Services will be held on December 28, 2024, at 11am at First Baptist Church Huffman in Huffman, Texas. Services will be led by Pastor Mike Martin and Terry’s son, Chaplain Khris Slaughter. Terry will be remembered with military honors.
Terry chose to be cremated with his remains being combined with his wife, Kimberly’s. Terry will have a veteran marker placed at the Melder Family Cemetery in Glenmora, La at a later date with close family in attendance.
