Susan Lenora Turley Haywood, 76, of Atascocita, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Humble, Texas.

Born on August 4, 1948, in El Paso, Texas, Susan was the daughter of Troy Ray Turley and Christine Carrol. She spent her early years in El Paso before moving to the central Houston area and, for the past 47 years, called Atascocita home. Susan's life was defined by love, service, and adventure, as she devoted herself to caring for others and exploring the world with her beloved husband.

After graduating from high school, Susan pursued her passion for nursing at Texas Women's University, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. Her dedication to the field of nursing was unwavering, and she went on to teach nursing classes, inspiring countless students throughout her career. From her early days as a candy striper, Susan's calling to care for others grew into a lifelong vocation. She was not only a skilled and compassionate nurse but also a caregiver to everyone she knew, always ready to lend a hand and offer support.

Susan's personal life was filled with joy and adventure. She and her husband, Darrell Dillon Haywood, were married for 54 years and shared a love for travel. Together, they visited 48 of the 50 U.S. states, leaving only Vermont and Hawaii to be explored. Their travels also took them to 10 foreign countries, further enriching their lives with diverse experiences and cherished memories. Susan was also passionate about music, especially the timeless tunes of Elvis Presley, and she enjoyed camping, dancing, and spending time with her family.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Troy Ray Turley and Christine Carrol, and her sister, Virginia Platt. She is survived by her devoted husband, Darrell Dillon Haywood; her sisters, Debbie Barron, Faye Degetaire, and Patty McDonald; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and other extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a service following at 3:00 p.m.

Susan's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to others will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
