Susan Diane Armstrong, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 73, after a courageous five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Born on February 4, 1952, in Springville, New York, Susan was the daughter of Robert and Norma (Brooks) Knopf. She was raised in a hardworking family. She graduated from Griffith Institute and Central School in Springville before pursuing higher education at SUNY Plattsburgh, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
On June 1, 1974, Susan married the love of her life, Larry Armstrong. Together, they faced life’s challenges and opportunities, moving frequently for Larry’s construction work but always keeping family at the center of their journey. They eventually settled in Dayton, Texas.
Susan’s professional path took many turns. She began as a home economics teacher, later worked in retail, and ultimately found fulfillment in the engineering sector, where she took great pride in contributing to projects like the Grand Parkway in Houston, Texas. No matter the job, she carried herself with integrity and an unwavering belief in doing what was right.
Her greatest pride, however, was her family. Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Larry Armstrong; her daughter, Heather Dunn, and her husband, Nicholas, of Honiton, England; her son, Mark Armstrong, of Beaumont, Texas; and her son, Erik Armstrong, and his wife, Alison, of Tomball, Texas. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ryan and Alexander Dunn and Avery and Evelyn Armstrong, who were the light of her life.
She is also survived by her sister, Brenda McCann, and her husband, John, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Brenda’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Norma Knopf; her paternal grandparents, Lester and Lillian Knopf; and her maternal grandparents, Norman and Maize Brooks.
Susan had many passions beyond work and family. She was an avid crafter, skilled in sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She loved to paint and garden. She took great interest in researching the family's genealogy. She also had a keen interest in civics and current events with a strong passion for progress, fairness, and justice. Susan leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and deep conviction.
A service to honor Susan’s life will be held on 11:30 AM, Tuesday March 18th at Pace-Stancil funeral home in Dayton, Texas. She will be laid to rest at Palms Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.
