Stephen “Gene” Austin, 81, of Moss Hill, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, in Baytown.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with burial following at Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Gene was born July 31, 1935 in Hull, to parents; Ernest Austin and Annie “Lucille” Edmond Austin, a former resident of Liberty, and has resided in Moss Hill for the past 20 years. He was a graduate of the Liberty High School, a retired telecommunications technician for the US Air Force with service during Vietnam, and a former diesel mechanics educator at the Dade County Correctional Facility. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, and boat trailer fabrication.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his father: Ernest Austin, mother: Lucille Edmond Fregia, and sister: Ruth Ann. He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Linda “Sue” Hudson Austin of Moss Hill, sons: Richard “Alan” Austin of Corpus Christi and Steve Austin of Houston, daughters: Cindy Matthews of Oklahoma and Stephanie Austin of Houston, brother: Bobby Smally of Liberty, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous other relatives, and friends.
