Sis Havard Farris

November 22, 1932 — July 22, 2013

Elmira Havard Farris, better known as Sis Farris, age 80 of Tarkington Prairie died Monday, July 22, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. Sis was a descendant of the Berry and Simmons families who were early settlers of Tarkington Prairie and was born on the back of a horse with a crooked tail in her hand. She grew up working as a ranch hand on the family ranch, working cattle and building fences. She worked as a nurse and in later years enjoyed antiquing and junking. Sis was a former member of the Dayton Young Homemakers and the Dayton Leather Poppers. She was one of the founders of Dayton Ole Tyme Days and the Tarkington Historical Society. She was a member of the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church. Services for Mrs. Farris will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mike Blackburn officiating and burial will follow at Ryan Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Sis was preceded in death by her parents: Cary Havard, Sr. and Beulah Berry Havard; her husband of 61 years: J. D. Farris; her brothers: Leslie Havard, Donald Havard, W.H. “Boob” Havard, Curtis Havard, and Cary Havard, Jr. She is survived by her daughters: Rhonda Farris of Baytown; Evonne Crocker and husband Wayne of Navasota, and Monya Farris of Lindale; her loyal companion: Trouble Farris; six granddaughters: Jinifer Johnson, Rose Ann Barbeaud, Betsy Bergeron, Mollie Bergeron, Elizabeth Crump, and Laura Sprouls; grandson: Paul Rucker; great-grandsons: Cory, Colby, Jesse, Jackson, and Ian; great-granddaughters: Haley, Lucy, Catherine, and Kayden; great great-granddaughter: Harper Ann; sister-in-law: Sally Legion Havard of Tarkington Prairie,; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends of Honor are Mildred Lowe, Billie Cooper, Lethal Cooper, Alice Gallagher, all Sunday School Ladies, all Activity Club Ladies, Frances Thonsgaard, Lola Fosburgh, Lois Damek, Mary Ripkowski, Rose Klemitchek, Janie Henscey, Sally Havard, Alison Havard, Elsie Hansbro, Shirley Pace, JoAnn Paul, and Carolyn McDaniel. Pallbearers are Cody Havard, Shane Havard, Shawn Havard, Bucky Havard, Mike “Flash Back” Williams, Paul “Ham Bone” Rucker, Jerry Lee Hansbro and Lee Groce. Honorary Pallbearers are Pete Barbeaud, Doug Hanel, Winston Sizemore, Jimmie Rollins, Bill Brewer, Jerry Lowe, John Pace, Bill Krull, Bob Krull, and Jerry McDaniel.
