Sidney Littleton Laird, 75, of Dayton died Monday, August 08, 2011 at Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Laird was born January 10, 1936 in Houston, Texas to parents Morgan Jesse and Mary Dee Riley Laird. He had graduated from Dayton High School in 1954 and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp. from 1954 until 1962. He returned to Dayton in 1963 and was a member of the American Legion Post #512. He worked for General Crude-Mobil before retiring in 1992, Castle Engine Services, and Stewart-Stevenson. Sidney enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, woodworking, leatherwork, and coin collecting. He attended First Baptist Church.
Services for Mr. Laird will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Laird was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Joshoua Damon Laird, and Joseph Robert “Robbie” Sidney Laird. He is survived by his daughter: Stacy Sundgren and husband Gary of Liberty, grandson: Joshua Sundgren of Liberty; brothers: Curtis Laird and wife Erika of Dayton, Morgan Laird, Jr. and wife Dee of Fabens; sister: Jackie Haley of Panama City Beach, Florida; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
