Shirley Murphy Ulkie

June 12, 1943 — June 22, 2012

Shirley Murphy Ulkie, 69 of Dayton passed away peacefully Friday, June 22, 2012 surrounded by her family.  She was born June 12, 1943 in Kennedy, Texas to parents James and Goldie Abshire Murphy.  Shirley had lived in Dayton for the past 48 years.  She had worked for Dayton Independent School District for 40 years in food service as a manager.  She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, enjoyed cooking, gardening, and making ceramics.  Shirley most of all loved her family and friends.  Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Ulkie will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Father Michael Vu officiating.  Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.   Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday evening with Rosary 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years:  Louis John “Big John” Ulkie; sisters:  Lounell Rasco and Alice Cleveland; also her nephew:  Will Graves.  She is survived by her daughter:  Suzeanne Ulkie-Havard of Dayton; grandson:  Kordale Havard of Dayton; granddaughter:  Hope Havard of Dayton; sisters: Mary Ann Ward and husband Bob of Baytown, Linda Remsing and husband Bill of Dayton, Janice O’Neill and husband Colin of Conroe, Loretta Bell of Hardin, Debra Strawn of Hardin, Patsy O’Neill and husband Dale of Moss Hill, and Kathy Brandon of Hardin; her brother:  James E. Murphy and wife Mary of Huntsville; brother-in-law:  Archie Ulkie and wife Patsy of Dayton, Pat White and wife Donna of Dayton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
