Sherman "Bo" Payne

Sherman "Bo" Payne, a dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator for Harris County and a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 35 years, passed away on April 8, 2024, in Houston. He was born on May 7, 1942, in Camden, Texas.

 

Bo's passion for operating heavy equipment was unmatched, and his work ethic was truly admirable. He graduated from Dayton High School in the class of 1960 and played football for the Bronchos.

 

One of Bo's proudest accomplishments was being a member of Huffman Lodge #1428 AF&AM, showcasing his commitment to both his work and his community. Outside of work, he found joy in working cattle on his property and spending time with his loved ones.

 

He had lived in Crosby since 1970 and previously was a longtime resident of Dayton.

 

Bo is preceded in death by his parents Herman Payne and Willie Muriel Jordan Payne, brothers Buzz Payne and Bobby Payne (along with Bobby's wife Josephine), sisters Barbara Watson and Pat Cantrell (along with her husband Roy).

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Linda Payne, children Todd McCoy (and his wife Karen), Daniel Payne (and his wife Jessica), and Belinda Nolte (and her husband David), as well as grandchildren Dillon McCoy, Katelyn McCoy (and her husband Jason Hatton), Weston McCoy, Lilly Payne, Russell Payne, Samuel Payne, Reed Payne, Audrey Nolte, Holly Nolte, and Travis Nolte. Bo is also survived by his sister Sharlene Prazak (and her husband Johnny), sister-in-law Susie Payne, brother-in-law Buck Watson and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

 

Services to honor and celebrate Bo's life will be held at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home located at 1304 N Cleveland St in Dayton. A visitation will take place on April 13th from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. Bo will then be laid to rest at Bold Springs Cemetery in Livingston at 3:00 PM.

 

Pallbearers will be Dillon McCoy, Weston McCoy, Russell Payne, Samuel Payne, Reed Payne and Travis Nolte. Honorary pallbearers will be Burt Payne, Jason Payne, Chester Payne, Ben Payne and Troy Cantrell.

 

Sherman "Bo" Payne will always be remembered for his hard work, dedication to his craft, love for his family, and the positive impact he had on all those around him. May he rest in peace.
