Samuel Jerrel Ferguson, 68, passed away on November 2, 2022 in Dayton, Texas. Jerrel was born April 5, 1954 in Cleveland, Texas to Samuel Ferguson and Ada Cassie Jones Ferguson.
Jerrel was a 1972 graduate of Cleveland High School and a proud member of the Royal Braves Band. He resided in Cleveland most of his life and was often seen around the community. Jerrel was employed as a Funeral Assistant and spent many years being of service to the people in Cleveland. He also held the job of a Sports Editor for the local paper and was an excellent sports photographer. One of his photos of Astros’ first baseman Glenn Davis was up for an award. He also covered many news and sporting events including the 1986 Olympic Festival with coverage in dozens of newspapers including the USA Today. He most recently became a resident of Dayton, Texas. Jerrel collected light houses and loved music. He enjoyed watching football and baseball games with friends and enjoyed being with family and the time he spent with family meant everything to him.
Jerrel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Holly Ferguson; brother, Billy Gene Ferguson; sisters, Bobbie Louise Yancey, Juanita Frances Jones. He is survived by his children, Samuel Wayne Ferguson, Heather Nugent and husband Roy: grandchildren, Briana Blaylock, Jason Blaylock, Taylor Nugent and numerous nieces and nephews.
