Sadie Lee (Jackson) Smith, age 93, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Sadie was born in Orange, TX to Wallace and Agnes Jackson on May 27, 1924, the second of seven children. Like most of her generation, she lived through the Great Depression and World War II - a member of the greatest generation – who not only embraced those tough years, but also embraced and appreciated all life had to offer. After meeting Tommy Smith and falling in love and they were married in Tonopah, NV on December 15, 1945. They then moved to Bishop, CA where Tommy was employed by Los Angeles Water and Power until his death on November 5, 1966. Sadie and Tommy welcomed Sharon and later Carolyn who, who passed in infancy. She worked as a secretary at Bishop Elementary School on Bishop, CA and in 1970 she moved back to Tarkington Prairie so she could be closer to her parents. She worked for Brookshire Bros. for over 20 years in the Cleveland, TX location.
Sadie loved her family and was proud to come from a large family, enjoying the many events and gatherings that were held. She also enjoyed her church family at Rural Shade Church and especially her Sunday School class. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling both nationally and internationally, and cooking and baking, that included “testing” new and different recipes for family gatherings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Total Loving Care and Living Waters Hospice in New Caney, TX, particularly Le Gasper and Sharon Gasper.
Sadie, we love you to the moon and back and the stars and beyond.
