Roy Milton Rowell, Jr., 74, our beloved Dad, was born January 13, 1947, in Baytown (Goose Creek), TX, and passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1966. He was a U.S. Airforce veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He served from 1967 to 1971 and was stationed in the Philippines. He retired from the Elevator Service with 35 years of service. He settled in Splendora, TX with his wife of 23 years, Linda Rowell. They were happily married in 1998. They enjoyed spending time together with their children and grandchildren. When Roy turned ill, Linda stayed right by his side to take care of him.
Roy was married to Shirley Hale for 19 years and they were friends until the end. He helped raise Shirley’s daughter, Shelly Anne Brannon as his own. He had his first child Jonathan Roy Rowell in 1981. Two years later had his baby girl, Amanda Lee Rowell. He loved his children dearly and was proud of their many accomplishments. He also had a great love for all animals especially, his dogs. He left behind his sweet baby girl Sassy that he loved like a child.
He had a true passion for hunting and fishing, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. For 40 years, he participated in the MacDonald’s fishing tournament in Rayburn, TX. We all have fond memories of him telling his hunting and fishing stories. He was a true outdoorsman; that could skin a buck or run a trotline and everything in-between. He also taught himself how to do taxidermy. It was an annual family tradition to go to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo together. He was a good ole country boy and he always shined when he had on his Lucchese boots and cowboy hat.
He was the most caring person you could ever meet. He was the type that would give you the shirt off his back. He had many family and friends that he cared for and they will all truly miss him dearly.
Roy’s Famous Quotes: “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all.”, “Where am I at, what’s my name?”, “I was doing fine until I got over it.”
Let’s finish this off the way Roy would “Say Bye!”
