Rodney Earl Smith, 71, of Dayton died Monday, December 16, 2013 in Baytown, Texas. He was born May 1, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas to parents E. L. and Artie Maxine Neel Smith. He has lived in this area for over 33 years after moving from Fort Worth. Mr. Smith was retired from Brown and Root where he worked as a pipefitter. He was a collector and enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and gardening. Service for Mr. Smith will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave McClennan officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 48 years Martha Jane Pate Smith, his brother David Smith, and his sister Betty Branson. He is survived by his daughters: Sherrie Lynn Mayfield and husband Randal of Dayton and Sabra Dawn Farmer and husband Michael of Mont Belvieu; his son: Rodney Scott Smith ; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Cindy Cloud, Carmen Mann, Kim Smith, and Pam Strother; his brother: Neel Smith, also numerous other relatives and friends.
