Robert Forrest Atkins, 87, passed away on May 8, 2011, with his family by his side in Conroe, TX. Visitation hours are from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Coldspring, TX, where he was a member for 72 years.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m., also at the First Baptist Church. He was born February 4, 1929, in Chilton, TX, to Robert Oliver and Birtie Sewell Atkins. Robert was 14-years-old when the family moved to Coldspring. After graduating from Coldspring High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served in World War II and the Korean War as a navigator and bombardier. He flew 55 missions in a B-24 Liberator during WWII and then flew 50 missions in a B-24 Liberator during the Korean War. In between the two wars, Mr. Atkins attended the University of Houston majoring in pre-law. Afterward, he attended the University of Texas and obtained a law degree. He served as the County Attorney in San Jacinto County for 29 years and then continued his law career in private practice until 2008.

Mr. Atkins is survived by his wife, Sally Browder Atkins; his three daughters, Linda and husband Dalton Currie, Theresa and husband Scott Rosekrans and Debbie and husband Art Womack; his sisters, Wilma Browder and Billie Trapp; Seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
