Robert V. “Bob” Alkire, 95, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 1579 CR 611, Dayton, Texas, the Alkire home. There will a pot luck after the service for all. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Bob was born May 27, 1922 in Oregon, Missouri, to parents; Harry Thatcher and Margaret Eva Vincent Alkire, a former resident of California, and has resided in Dayton for the past five years. He was a retired veteran of the US Navy with service during WW II, Korea, and Vietnam, in addition to being a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He worked as a machinist and truck driver prior to retiring. He also enjoyed carpentry, his yardwork, and the outdoors.
Mr. Alkire was preceded in death by his parents: Harry Thatcher and Margaret Eva Vincent Alkire and sisters: Margaret Von Martin and Ethel Mae Crider. He is survived by his wife of 70 years: Ruth Balsley Alkire, sons: John R. Alkire and wife Anita, Ronald G. Alkire, Kenneth D. Alkire and wife Diane, and Tracy Alkire and wife Jennifer, daughter: Susan “Sue” Alkire, grandchildren: Christopher Alkire, Bobbie Woo, Christopher Parker, and Jackson Parker, great-granddaughter: Emily Woo, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
