Reginald Wayne (Reggie) Burrell, 71, of Cleveland, Texas passed away February 3, 2017.
He was born August 30, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas to Harold Naylor Burrell and Beulah Mae Barrow Burrell. He was a graduate of Liberty High School in 1963. He married Joann Bennett Burrell on December 30, 1966. He then attended and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Reggie was proud of his service to his country. After his honorable discharge in 1973, he began working in the funeral industry in San Antonio, Texas. In 1976, Reggie and Joann moved to Cleveland, Texas where he served the families of Liberty County as a funeral director for 32 years. He was blessed to help families at one of the worst times in their lives, when they had lost a loved one. He treated those families like his own. He was a member of the Tarkington Prairie Masonic Lodge #498. He also served the community as a member of the Rotary Club, Cleveland Athletic Booster Club, and a Little League coach. He served Cleveland ISD, where his daughters attended school, as a school board member for 12 years. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Cleveland.
Anyone who knew Reggie, knew how much family meant to him. He and Joann were blessed with two daughters, Regina and Andrea. But perhaps their greatest treasures are their five grandchildren. After retirement, they spent their time between Corpus Christi and Willis supporting the grandchildren’s various school, church, and sporting activities.
