Ralph Byron Hubert

Ralph Byron Hubert, age 81 years and a resident of Cleveland, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 26th 2013 in Cleveland, Texas. He was born in Milam County (Rockdale, TX) on January 19 1932 to parents Ralph Hubert and Jessie Lewis Hubert who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were sisters Florence Hubert Fletcher, May Agnes “Maggie” Hubert, Jessie Lou Hubert Netherland, brother Hoyle Hubert, first wife Willie Faye Garrison and second wife Barbara Ann Hair. Ralph was the second youngest child born of twelve. Five of the surviving siblings currently residing in Rockdale, TX area include Bonnie Hubert Gjedde, Doris Hubert “Dot” McCutheon, Louis Donald Hubert, Charles “Cotton” Hubert and Margaret Hubert Denman. The other surviving sibling includes Jack Hubert currently residing in Bryan, TX. He was a distinguished Veteran of the United States Navy, SeaBee’s, serving four years and received the following honors, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Ralph accomplished many goals throughout his life and career, starting in the Navy working with auto parts he continued his success as he owned and operated Hi-Lo Auto Parts Store in Sea Brook, TX. He also was partners in other surrounding stores, opening his last in New Caney, TX. Wanting to retire, he then turned around and bought the Shade Grocery in Tarkington Prairie, a small community outside of Cleveland, TX. Moving on and wanting to retire again, he ended up building the Tarkington Exxon Convenience Store operating and supporting the people and making them smile. Although Ralph was gone from Rockdale he never forgot the people there. He had the opportunity to purchase the Taylor Bank Plaza Shopping Center where he can could still be apart of his neighborhood that he grew up in. He appreciated all the support from the local community and friends. Aside from Ralph’s career accomplishments his hobbies included, fishing, coon hunting, farming and riding the tractor. He was a great cook and a master of many tasty recipes. He held the secret to barbequing the best briskets around, slow cooking 16 per week for hours at a time and serving them at his convenience store. Many will miss that wonderful flavor…and so will he! Ralph’s favorite thing to do was eat. He enjoyed eating most of his meals in his favorite comfy recliner with his dog Rudy, an oversized Chihuahua who looked like he was on steroids. Another hobby Ralph enjoyed was sharpening and maintaining chainsaws. Many loggers around these parts will tell you that “no one could fix it quite like Ralph Hubert could.” Looking back, Ralph Hubert was a great father and awesome grandfather. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play all sports whether it was cheerleading, baseball, football, basketball, golf and even karaoke. Whatever the activity he was there ready to support and participate. He will be missed more than words can ever express. Other survivors include daughters Shawn Hubert Norton and husband Wyman Norton; Sheila Hubert Williams and fiancé Eddie Donahay; sons Roy Dan Hubert and wife Deanna Mack Hubert; Jerry Dale Hubert; grandchildren Aaron Scott Hubert; Daniel Keith Hubert; Thomas Clayton Williams; Channing Renee’ Norton; Taya Colette Williams; great grandchildren Kovin Scott Hubert; Alisa Marie Byszeski; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 5:00 – 9:00 pm, Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm, Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment following at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery.
