Rachel Gertson

Rachel Melanee Gertson, age 89, and a resident of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015. She was born January 3, 1926 in Pasadena, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert James Franklin and Hazel Stetson Franklin; sister, Martha McDaniel; brother, W.R. Frank; and daughter, Vicky Lynn.
Survivors include her son, Guy Albert Gertson and wife Carolyn; sister Geraldine Evans and husband Quincy; grandchild, Samantha Lee Gertson; great-grandchild, Sage Alexander Lea; nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Visitation will be held 1:00-5:00 pm, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Reverend Paige Bostwick will preside over funeral services being held 10:00 am, Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Liberty Church in Cleveland, TX. interment following at Oak Shade Cemetery.
Rachel worked for South Western Bell Telephone as a Switchboard Operator for 27 years. She retired in December 1983.
She was a member of Liberty Church in Cleveland, TX for over 30 years. She was known for her servants heart and her desire to give to others. She loved to cook and was always in the kitchen preparing meals for every occasion. She served in many capacities at the church including ministering to the children and she always made visitors feel welcomed. She was ministry in action and never slowed down.
She loved volunteering at Operation Refuge in Cleveland, TX where she never met a stranger. She always had an encouraging word for others and would have given you the shirt off her back.
She has touched many peoples lives over the years in the Cleveland and Tarkington area with her kind gentle heart and sincere desire to serve others. She was a blessing to everyone she met and will be greatly missed
