Pennie Ann Sherman Stuard “Grannie”, age 98, of Cleveland, Texas, went to live with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was born October 17, 1912 in San Jancinto County to T.L. Roark and Leona Whitmire Roark who preceded her in death along with her loving husbands, Mack (Buck) Jefferson Sherman and Bennie Stuard. Also preceding her in death are children, Jeff Preston Sherman, Anna Jane Hundl and Ellis Eugene Sherman.

Survivors include her daughters, Settie Lee Sherman Johnston and husband Jerry, Lue La’Fern Wilkerson and Jerome; sons, Kenneth Sherman and wife, Amanda and Kalvin Sherman and wife, Debbie; daughter-in-law, Bea Sherman; son-in-law, Dennis Hundle; other children, Faye, Opal, and Larry Stuard. Also surviving is her sister, Florida Lewis; 26 grandchildren; 62 great- grandchildren; 62 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and faithful friend and caregiver Cheryl Sweeten.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 3, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Pastor Mike Chapman will preside over funeral services being held Monday, April 4, 2011, 10:00 a.m. in the Pace-Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas with interment following at Roark Cemetery. Her great-grandsons Aaron Guttierrez, Brad Sherman, Robbie Sherman, Jr., Brent Sherman, Christopher Neidigh, Larry Wayne Duncan, Tommy Harp, and Jaysen Jones will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are great-granddaughters, Donna Minter, Beckie Duncan, Crystal Holmes, Patricia Sherman, Elizabeth Hilton Rhonda Jackson and Kindel Harp.

Grannie loved caring for others and during her lifetime she helped provide for approximately 25 other children in addition to her own 5 birth children. There was always room in her home for one more.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare givers and staff of the Cleveland Healthcare Center for their love and care.
