Peggy Sue Smith

September 28, 1940 — December 12, 2019

A Celebration Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Cypress Point Baptist Church, 21 Blue Lake Dr., Huffman, Texas.

Peggy, called “Granny” by most. People that knew Granny Peggy, knew her to be a caring person with a passion for life. She did trick riding with horses in her youth. She liked fishing, adventuring and especially cooking. What thrilled her most was gathering with her family. She cherished her husband, deeply loved her sons, Phil and Robin, and adored beyond words her Grandchildren and Great Grand Children, cared greatly for her Sister, Linda. Peggy greatly loved all of her family. She was proud of her family and made it known that it was ‘the best family’ on earth. As many of you know, Peggy would take you to be her own, a part of her family.

Always looking for challenges she held various jobs and titles in her career. She was a beautician, she worked at Singer Sewing Machine co., Southwestern Bell, Acme Truck Lines and many other places. She also loved volunteering to help others. She became a Christian in the late 70s and grew to serve others in the church and beyond. Peggy was a Girls ACTEEN leader and, together with her husband Joe, she was a youth leader. She presented the gospel to many people.

She was also proud to serve in her local VFW in Laurel, Mississippi as an auxiliary member. She held many leadership positions in the Cootie organization where, as a group within the VFW, the Cooties would visit veterans at hospitals and assisted living facilities to show honor, respect and love to the veterans that often didn’t have others visiting them. Granny Peggy was always on the side of the “underdog”.

Granny Peggy never wanted individuals to be alone during the holidays. Consequently, there was most always individuals or families invited to her own family gatherings.

Over the last few years of her life, she became an even bolder witness for the cause of Christ. Granny Peggy had walked the edge of death and God chose to give her four more years. She told the story of God’s power and grace to every doctor who saw her. The medical staff knew her as “Granny” and knew of the story of God’s grace. She would often start conversations for the sole purpose of opening a door to present the Gospel. She smiled, laughed, cried and loved. She loved being the center of attention because she thrived on pouring into people and lightening their load.

She will be greatly missed, but because she knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior, we who have put our trust in Him know we will see her again.

If she were here right now, she would ask you, “Do YOU know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?”
