Nellie Williams was born on January 30, 1922 to the late Henry Whittaker and Lizzie Turner. A resident of Dolen, Texas for many years, Nellie was active in the community where she had many friends and neighbors. She was first employed by the late Dr. James H. Alexander of Cleveland, Texas, where she became a great influence in the lives of his family, including his daughters, Rebecca Alexander Turner, Jamie Alexander and Susan Alexander Cox, as well as his wife Mary Alexander Carter. After Dr. Alexander’s death, Nellie worked for the Texas State Department of Health as a community service planner. Working closely with the local residents in her region, she served in that capacity for many years until her retirement. Having committed her life to Christ at an early age, Nellie served faithfully at Little Flock Baptist Church for many years. She later became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Extremely independent all of her life, Nellie believed in working hard and doing her fair share. Always willing to help those who helped themselves, she was reluctant to ask for help herself. Her mortal existence ended on Saturday, October 12, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Williams, son Nathan Williams Jr.; three brothers, Horace Whittaker, Wallace Whittaker and S.W. Robinson, and one sister, Lizzie Miller. She is survived by her daughter Mandy Williams; two sisters, Georgia Wade and Odessa McCree, three grandchildren Rodney Williams, Rhonda Williams and Bernice Williams; five nieces, Nadja, Joyce, Jean, Thelma, and Diane, all of Houston, Texas, and eight nephews, Bruce, Blair, Reginald, Tyrone, Keith, and Calvin, all of Houston, Texas, and James and Jim, both of Seattle, Washington. Mrs. Williams also leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends.
