Monroe Douglas Gann, 73, passed away on August 27, 2024, at home in Splendora, TX. He was born on February 3, 1951, in Hamlin, TX to Monroe T. Gann and Lenora H. Gann. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Charlotte, his children Ryan, Shelley, Jason, and Jeff, their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donnie, and survived by two brothers, Larry and Kenny, and their spouses.
Doug grew up on a farm in the small town of Anson, TX. He moved to Houston shortly after school where he served 16 years in law enforcement working for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. In 1985, he reached his dream goal of becoming a professional pilot and continued flying for another 12 years. His involvement in aviation led him to become an Honorary Colonel for the Commemorative Air Force in Oct. 2015. Following his flight career, he pursued many other interests and managed several businesses of his own.
Flying was Doug’s passion. There was no such thing as too many air shows. He enjoyed spending time with family, vacationing, space, football, baseball, collecting guns, John Wayne, and John Deere. He watched old Westerns and the Hallmark Channel. He listened to old country songs and sang out loud to 60’s music while driving. He could build or fix just about anything. His special skill: the man could whistle. He was loving, hard-working, and a man of faith: God, Family, Country.
A Memorial Service for Doug will be held at 3pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024 in the Pace-Stancil Chapel located at 303 E. Crockett St. Cleveland, TX 77327.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity.
