Mona Lee Goolsby Johnson, 82, of Dayton, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in Dayton. She was affectionately known by some as “Red” and as “Nana” to many.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Palms Cemetery in Dayton. Services directed by Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Serving as pallbearers are Marshall Clements, Shane Derrington, Billy Hibbits, Daniel Hibbits, Tommy Hibbits, and Dustin Richard. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Carr and Mike Williams.
Mona was born June 18, 1934 in Austin, Pennsylvania to parents; Morris Van Why and Twila Mae Long, and has been a lifelong resident of the Dayton area. She was a big fan of George Straight and enjoyed fishing, puzzles, trips to the casino, and crocheting. Mona loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren.
Mrs. Goolsby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William “Bill” L. Goolsby; brother, Robert Van Why, Sr.; son- in-law, Charles Derrington; and daughter-in-law, Connie Clements. She is survived by her son, Gene Clements of Dayton; daughters, Wanda Derrington and fiancé Steve Rogers of Dayton, Sandra Hibbits of Houston, and Brenda Hibbits and husband Thomas of Beaumont; son-in-law, Robert Hibbits; brother, Morris Van Why, Jr. of Tennessee; grandchildren, Marshall Clements and Tewana Leonard, Siobhan Clements, Shane Derrington, Shannon Carr and husband Danny, Billy Hibbits and wife Ashton, Daniel Hibbits and wife Flor, Tommy Hibbits and wife Autumn, Jennifer Jackson and husband Eric, Megan Stelly and husband Allen; eight great grandchildren; her good friends at Dayton Retirement Center, and many other relatives and friends.
