Millie E. “Maw Maw” Whitmire Beard, 90, of Cleveland, died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Oak Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland. Maw Maw was born October 18, 1920 in Cleveland, to parents; Sam and Emma Yancey Whitmire, and has resided in the Cleveland area throughout her life. She was a homemaker, member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed poetry, church activities, and quilting. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Dorsey A. “D.A.” Beard, sister: Pauline Fuller, and brothers: Buster, Luther, and Sam Junior Whitmire, and J. D. Ferguson. She is survived by her daughter: Millie D. “Tootie” Smith and husband Robert W. “Dub” of Cleveland, sister: Margie Robertson of Cleveland, granddaughters: Carolyn Wright and husband Johnny, Beverly Smith and Bubba Haley, and Lynn Duke and husband Berry, 10 great-grandchildren, 13 great great-grandhchildren and one on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
