Michael Edward Brooks

January 13, 1949 — December 8, 2020

Michael Edward Brooks, 71, went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2020. Resident of Cleveland, Texas, Mike was preceded by his father: Marion Edward Brooks, mother: Levon Brooks, brothers: Kevin Brooks and Martin Brooks, and sisters: Kimberly Gardner and Brandi Brooks. Mike is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, Patricia Brooks, son Brian Brooks and wife Gale, daughter Bobbi Smith and husband Randy, daughter Tracy Wilson, Grandchildren: Justin Smith, Destiny Smith, Brandon Smith, Emily Brooks, Montana Collum, Skyller Wilson and Jaydenn Wilson, sister Linda Mollohan, along with countless beloved family and friends.

Michael, known to us as Mike, Pops, Papa and Grandpa was born at Fort Hood Army Base, on January 13, 1949. He was a loving, dedicated husband and father of three children and seven grandchildren. He served in the United States Army. His position as superintendent in the construction industry was how he made his living, but his love of woodwork was his passion. Mike built his home in Cleveland along with many precious items he would create for his family and friends. His most beloved projects are the wagons he made for each of his grandchildren and for numerous years created a unique wagon for the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattleman’s Association’s annual BBQ cookoff auction fundraiser. His wagons were so prized that they would be purchased and donated back a few times to raise thousands for scholarships. Mike was also known for his BBQ. He was part of Top Hand Cookers and Paw Paws BBQ cookoff teams and looked forward to competing, most of all at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo BBQ cookoff where he entered his award-winning brisket and rib recipes. His love of cooking extended to the kitchen for his famous cookies and banana split pies.

His favorite time of year was Thanksgiving where he invited everyone to come and share in good food and good times. Honesty, respect and hard work was who he was, and was instilled in his children with unconditional love, as well as everyone that new him. We carry you in our hearts and will see you again.
