Mary Nicklow, age 80 of Coldspring, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015. She was born February 8, 1935 in Conroe, Texas to parents Earl and Iva Tomlin who preceded her in death along with her granddaughter, Amber Basye; sons, David Basye and Steve Nicklow; husband, Melvin Basye; and brother, Earl Tomlin Jr. Survivors include her husband, Quay Nicklow; sons, Tim Basye and wife Sherry Wagner and Michael Nicklow and wife Nancy; daughters, Gina Nicklow and Lisa Nicklow; daughter-in-law, Lisa Kay Nicklow; grandchildren, Brandon Basye, Jackson Du’ Boise, Kenneth Wagner, Bayard Nicklow, Heather Wagner, William Ebarb, and George Paul Ebarb; numerous other relatives and friends. Mary graduated from John Reagan High School in 1952 where she was drum major of the Reagan Red Coats. She married Melvin Basye on October 18, 1952, they then moved to San Jacinto County in 1969; on December 5, 1978 Melvin passed. Mary then married Quay Nicklow on November 22, 1980. She was a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, artist, community member and a church member. She was a member of the Coldspring United Methodist Church, Coldspring Area Art League, Watercolor Society, Investment Club and Study Club. She was also a past member of Shepherd First Baptist Church, Shepherd Chamber of Commerce, Shepherd Beautification, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She was a very unusual, talented, and very warm-hearted person. She is one person who never had to ‘look around’ for something to do; in fact, Mary hardly ever had time to even ‘look around.’ She was very active all over San Jacinto County and a citizen that the whole county could depend on to help with any project. She was the owner of the Huffman Creek Studio and Gallery where she painted beautiful pictures. Her gallery was truly an art lover’s delight. Mary was also an active member of the Picture – A – Month Club in Cleveland, Texas. She became interested in art while in high school and had studied under some of the best teachers in the state of Texas, she exhibited in eight different cities and with one exception she won a ribbon on her paintings. David Green will preside over funeral services held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Coldspring, Texas. Interment will follow at Farley Chapel, Shepherd, Texas. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas.The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Amber Grace Basye Memorial Scholarship c/o Peoples State Bank P.O.
