Mary Jane Hummel, age 75 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born September 29, 1939 in Colmesneil, Texas to parents John and Virgie Cowart Anderson who preceded her in death along with her husband, Walter E. Hummel. Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Jane Walker, Donna H. Smith and husband Shelby Darren, and Dewina N. Todd; son, Daniel Edward Hummel; brothers, James Anderson and wife Arlene and John Anderson and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Samantha Kay Walker, Cody Mitchell Walker, and Christopher Hummel; twenty-seven foster grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Mary was an active member of Allendale Baptist Church in Houston, Texas while growing up. She was married to Walter Hummel and together they raised their four children in church. Walter surrendered to the ministry and was ordained as a minister after moving the family to Splendora, Texas at First Baptist Church. Mary faithfully supported her husband in the ministry at each of the churches at which he served as pastor. She was a woman of faith and stood firm on God’s Promises. She lived as she felt that God directed her, doing her very best to share the Lord. Her battle with illness was difficult, but her faith in God carried her through as it had throughout her life. Mary was dedicated to her family and cared for her parents and her husband until their passing. She instilled dedication and faith in each of her children and grandchildren, teaching them that “They could do (accomplish) all things through Christ who strengthens me.†Brother Kirbbie Cowart will preside over graveside services held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Ferrell Cemetery, Holly Fork, Texas. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.
