Mary Katherine Jackson Ellisor was born in Brenham, Texas to parents, Warren James Jackson and Mary Margureite Bucy Jackson on December 18, 1930. She passed away in Dallas, Texas on March 10, 2025, at the age of 94.
Mary K., as she was known to her friends and family, was a graduate of North Dallas High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southern Methodist University. She was a proud member of Delta Delta Delta, serving her collegiate chapter as Vice President and later as an alumna on the House Corporation. Mary K. was an organizing member of the Highland Park Chapter, DAR, and served her chapter in numerous offices, including Regent. She actively supported Boy Scout Troop 70, her children’s school PTA, and held memberships in Southern Memorial and Knife & Fork. Mary K. and husband Grover were married for almost 56 years at the time of his death. She grew up attending Highland Park Methodist Church and was a member of Central Christian Church, both in Dallas, Texas. Her proudest role was that of mother to her four children and then as an involved grandmother of seven. She delighted in watching them take part in the activities and sports they loved as well as hosting their friends. She was fun, spunky, had a lovely sense of style, and always loved to tell a good story. Her memory was her superpower, which she enjoyed through her last earthly day.
Mary K. was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grover C Ellisor Jr; and son, John Clayton Ellisor. She is survived by her beloved children, Kay Ellisor Hopkins and husband Joe, Grover C Ellisor III and wife Jackie, and Patty Ellisor Sode and husband Peter; daughter-in-law, Connie Ellisor Abston; brothers, Warren Edward Jackson and wife Charlotte, and James Neville Jackson and wife Lisa; sister-in-law Liz Ellisor Jones; grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Hopkins, Elizabeth Hopkins Hanna and husband Jim, John Christopher Hopkins and wife Randi, Grover C Ellisor IV, Peter Campbell Sode and wife Hallie, Julia McLean Ellisor, and Caroline Neville Ellisor; great-granddaughters, Harper Katherine Hanna, Taylor Lane Hanna, and Grace Elizabeth Hanna. She is also survived by nephews, Warren Edward Jackson Jr., Scott Jackson and wife Renee, and Douglas Jackson and wife Catherine; nieces, Cheryl Jackson Cramer and husband Tom, Laura Jackson Causey and husband Chris, Janet Jones, and Sally Jones Smith and husband Barry, as well as several cousins.
A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10am in the Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen, Texas with Pastor John Davidhizer officiating. A memorial service in Dallas, Texas will take place later.
