Mary Bernice Sadler, 90, of Dayton peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born October 25, 1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Service for Mrs. Sadler will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2019 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Douglas Griffin, Benjamin Griffin, Robert Griffin, Dalton Slaughter, Matthew Slaughter, and Ronnie Benton.
The family will receive friends, Thursday evening, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Bernice was raised by her mother, Sally LaRocca, maternal grandparents, Vincenzo and Lucia LaRocca and her uncle Joe and aunt Lena LaRocca. She was an only child but was always cared for by these relatives that cherished her. She spent these years between Missouri City and Houston until she married Samuel Sadler at the age of 17 in 1946. Dayton was her home from that time until her death.
She was a member of the Gum Grove Baptist Church for 68 years where she served as Sunday School Clerk, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Bernice worked for Liberty ISD Cafeteria for 16 years where she later became manager. After retiring, she worked for an additional 15 years at Judy Coons Sandwich Shop in Huffman. Bernice retired again well into her eighties. She was devoted to her family, enjoying family dinners and celebrations for all especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sadler was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Sadler; mother, Sally LaRocca Prather and step-father, Jimmy Prather; maternal grandparents, Vincenzo and Lucia LaRocca; son, Robert F. “Bobby” Sadler; father-in-law, Robert Frank Sadler. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Sadler Griffin and husband Grady of Livingston and Patricia Sadler Carter and husband Ronnie of Dayton; grandchildren, Kim Cade and husband Fred, Doug Griffin and wife Krysti, Melinda Crawford and husband David, Mary Slaughter and husband Brent, Benjamin Griffin and wife Mandy, Kathy Daniels and husband Paul, Carrie Rothberg and husband Grant, Emily Carter, Robyn Patterson and husband Jerry and Robert Griffin; twenty-one great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law (her partner in crime) and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Truman Howze; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
