Marvin Eugene Powell, a beloved member of the Cleveland community, passed away on February 3rd, 2025, at the age of 79. Marvin was born to parents William Eugene Powell and Gladys Murie Kelley Powell on December 15th, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas. 

Marvin devoted his life to serving and protecting others, touching countless lives with his commitment to justice, kindness, and unwavering dedication. His dedication to helping others began with a 3 year tour of duty in the U.S. Army. Marvin proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart, Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal. 

 His commitment to protecting and serving extended beyond his military service, as he returned home to contribute to his community in various ways. Marvin served as Liberty County Deputy Sheriff for 13 years, where he worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of Liberty County. His dedication and work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of the community. Marvin’s commitment to justice led him to serve 12 years as Liberty County Justice of the Peace Pct 5. 

In addition to his law enforcement work, Marvin became a respected Private Investigator, using his sharp mind and strong sense of integrity to serve individuals seeking justice and resolution. He further served the veterans’ community as the creator and liaison for the Liberty County Veterans Treatment Court, helping veterans navigate the legal system with dignity and compassion.

Although Marvin lived a life marked by many accomplishments and experiences,it was at the age of 50 that he made the life-changing decision to fully surrender his heart and life to the Lord. From that moment forward, he devoted himself to faithfully serving God and sharing His love with others.

Marvin was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and commitment to his family, community, and the Lord. He leaves behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, and dedication that will inspire all who knew him. 

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Powell; sister, Greta Ann Barnett.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Powell Conner and husband Steven, Jennifer Marie Powell; “heart-chosen” son, David “Bubba" Gillen; brother, David Powell; sister, Mildred Benton; grandchildren, Reno Conner and fiancée Laila Hart, Cauy Conner, Taylor League, Charli Powell, Josh Gatlin and wife Desiree, Christy Mayon Stoneberger and husband Cody, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.

A visitation for Marvin will be held at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home on Friday, February 14th from 5pm - 7 pm. The service will be held in the Pace-Stancil Chapel on Saturday, February 15th at 2pm. A private family interment is to follow. Serving as pallbearers will be Reno Conner, Cauy Conner, Taylor League, Josh Gatlin, Cody Stoneberger, David Gillen.
