Obituary for Martha Ann Reeves Moore

Martha Ann Reeves, 85, of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 19, 1939, to Cecil Moore and Sallie Moore in Dayton, Texas, Martha was a beloved member of the community, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Martha was a faithful member of South Dayton Baptist Church, where she was instrumental in its preservation. During the pandemic, when church services had to be held at home, Martha ensured the whole family came together, bringing warmth and unity to all. A lover of crafting, she had a special shed where she would make treasures out of everyday items, turning egg shells into candles and floating them down the river. Her creative spirit and ability to make something out of nothing inspired all who knew her.

Her devotion to family was immeasurable. A loving and patient mother, Martha took great care of her husband, JD, and always made sure her children and grandchildren had fun, even on long van rides across the country. She was a fixture at family gatherings, with everyone knowing that when “Granny said” something, it was the law. Her kind and generous nature extended beyond her family; she was always there to lend a hand, take food to those in need, or offer support when others were struggling.

Martha was proud of her heritage, delving into genealogy to trace her family roots, and she was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She was also a founding member of the Kinfolk Kookers team at the Dayton Ole Tyme Days, proudly winning first place. Martha had a passion for road trips and camping, and while she loved going out to eat, she always insisted on paying for everyone else. She had a deep love for garage sales, bingo, and spook houses, where her fun-loving spirit was never in short supply.

Martha was also involved with the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary, always ready to contribute to her community. Her legacy of service, love, and dedication will live on in the many lives she touched.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, JD Reeves, her sister Joyce Smith, children, Debra Reeves, Tadpole Reeves, Tommy Reeves, Cathy Brown, Clinney Reeves, Kenneth Reeves, James Ray Reeves, brother-in-law, Alfred Smith Sr., sisters-in-law, Jeanette Hatcher, JoAnne Thornton, Willa Dean Parker, Janice Barton, in-laws, Willie Mae Konecny, Ellis Willard Reeves.. She is survived by her children: Linda Noe of Dayton, Charlie Reeves and wife Tina of Anahuac, Anita Brown and husband Jerry of Dayton, Patricia Reeves of Dayton, Jason Reeves and wife Ashley of Kilgore, Cindy Kirby and husband Joey of Barbers Hill, and Arline Reeves of Dayton. She is also survived by her dear son-in-law Alvin Brown of Dayton, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

Martha’s warmth, generosity, and devotion to her family and community will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
