Martha E. Doyle, “Betty” was born September 24, 1930 in Pierce Junction, Texas and passed away December 21, 2016. Betty, the daughter of Jake H. and Edna Pearl Barrett, grew up in Brenham, Texas. Betty graduated from Brenham High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and her Master’s degree from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. She retired from teaching after 35 years in the classroom. Betty was a member of the Daughter’s of the Texas Republic and the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She loved to camp, hike, and go bird watching with her family and to spend time in her garden. She loved to read and write poetry and was a master storyteller.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Frings. Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harland Doyle, Jr; daughter, Sally Doyle; daughter, Terry Hilliard (Larry); son, Mark Doyle (Leslie); grandchildren, Nathaniel Knight, Christopher Knight, Kaitlynn Henderson, Samantha Doyle, Kenny Doyle, Mary Beth Hilliard, Liyuan Hilliard, and Olivia Hilliard; and her great-grandson, Zeke Henderson; and numerous friends and relatives. Betty was known for her divinity candy, her love of teaching, and for her storytelling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Coldspring, Texas December 23, 2016. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at City Cemetery in Madisonville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
