Marlene Louise Muirhead-Martin of Splendora passed peacefully at home with family and friends on Friday, March 20, 2020, after her courageous battle with cancer at the age of 48. She leaves behind her treasured grandjewels, dearly loved children, cherished friends, ever-supportive parents and a large extended family. She loved the quote #mypeopleshallbemypeople and it was a privilege to be part of her tribe.
Marlene was a proud 5th generation resident of East Montgomery County. The ancestors of her paternal grandmother, Jeanette Willaby, settled in New Caney, Texas in 1895. Marlene graduated from Splendora High School in 1989. She was a member and officer of the Splendora 4-H club and participated in the Montgomery County Fair throughout her youth. As a 4-H leader, she initiated the expansion of the Montgomery County Beautification Association to include Splendora and led members in gardening projects at local public locations. Marlene would help whenever she saw a way to promote or improve her hometown. She truly wanted to abide by the 4-H pledge “better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”
Marlene was talented, creative, compassionate and an active citizen in Splendora. She was an avid supporter of the Splendora Gardens Art Gallery and volunteered frequently. She was a devoted softball mom during her daughter’s youth. Marlene held various occupations around her community beginning with the family feed store which opened in 1978. She served as a clerk & technician for Montgomery County Elections department, a paraprofessional with SISD, a home health care assistant, a cake decorator & floral designer at Sweetie Pies and as a delivery driver for Splendora Pharmacy. We will miss our beautiful redhead and her boisterous personality in our lives.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 26, at Morgan Cemetery in Cleveland, Texas. Due to the recent CO-VID 19 CDC guidelines, we are limited to groups of 10 and social distancing is requested. We will also stream the service on Facebook Live for those that cannot attend. A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be announced at a later date.
