Marie Cairo Simmons, 97, of Liberty, died Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Magnolia Place Nursing Home in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with rosary services at 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Marie was born April 15, 1916 in Chicago, was a former resident of CA, and has resided in the Liberty area since 1945. She attended beauty school and dietician classes in college, member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and was riveter for Douglas Aircraft during WW II. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and traveling. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her father: Gabriel Cairo, mother: Millie R. Bruno, stepfather: Domonic Bruno, son: Dennis and David Simmons, brother: Frank Bruno, and sister: Loraine Muno. She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Luther Simmons of Liberty, grandchildren: Ronnie Simmons of Houston, Johnny Simmons of Houston, and Brandi M. Simmons of Baytown, great-granddaughter: Mackenzie Till, sisters: Dolores Bruno of Chicago and Betty Jean Evans of Chicago, brothers: Danny Bruno of Indiana and Al Bruno of Colorado, daughter-in-law: Denice Young of Baytown, nieces: Jean Hoagland of Tarkington Prairie and Betty Hoagland of Tarkington Prairie, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
