Marbell Dowlearn

November 22, 1943 — August 6, 2016

Marbell “Martie” Carey Dowlearn 11-22-1943 - 8-6-2016

Martie was born in Atoka, Ok, where she grew up on an orchard and strawberry farm. She was the youngest child of Andrew and Flora Carey, and she was pure mischief from the get go. She and her sister Joy made quite the dynamic duo when it came to shenanigans.

Aside from being wonderfully mischievous, Martie was always just overflowing with joy. She was so much fun to be around, and never met a stranger. She loved taking care of people.

Martie moved to Okinawa, Japan with her first husband, where her first son was born. They moved from there to Houston, where they later had a second son. Martie loved her boys so much, and raised them mostly as a single parent. She worked for National Oilwell for many years, eventually retiring from there, and settling in Crockett, TX with her husband Jeff. Martie was baptized in Crockett, TX at New Energy Baptist Church. They later moved to Cleveland, TX, to be closer to her youngest son and family, where she lived out the remainder of her days.

Martie enjoyed gardening, playing (and winning, of course) card games with her “Hot Mommas” group of lady friends who she would meet with pretty regularly, cruising in her golf cart, taking care of her chickens, spending time with family, and chit chatting on the phone with her sister Joy, as well as other friends and family. She enjoyed going to flea markets “treasure hunting” with her husband and daughter-in-law, and spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could. She loved all of her grandchildren, and was always so proud of each of them. A couple of them have definitely been blessed with that sweet mischief of hers!

Martie was a giver. She gave many things…Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, cards, fresh veggies from her garden, fresh eggs from her chickens, etc. The thing she was best at giving, and will be remembered for mostly, was her love. She was always very loving, and never said goodbye without first saying “I love you.” She wasn’t a highly emotional person, and would often tell someone who was struggling that “this too shall pass.” Martie had a way of coping that was admirable, and she would want each of us to know that “this too shall pass.” Life will never be the same for many of her family members and friends, but she is with her Lord, and the pain of not having her in our lives will decrease over time. Although it is as if a piece of us has gone on with her, she left a great deal of love with us, and that is what we must cling to….the love of
Christ, which she so wonderfully portrayed.
